The Buildings Today...
After serving as the education center for many thousands of
students over the years, low enrollment and financial
constraints forced the closing of St. Hedwig High School in
June, 1990. It was a sad day for the St. Hedwig family.
Today, there is young life filling the three schools
behind the church again. After renovation of the old St.
Hedwig School buildings, the Detroit Board of Education opened
the "Academy of the Americas". Its focus is
language immersion programs where students are taught basic education
in English and Spanish.
